Q. Why is there no phone number?
A. The owner, Amanda, is Deaf. We use email to communicate with everyone.
Q. Why is “that woman” yelling? (That woman is Amanda.)
A. Ha Ha!!! She’s not “yelling”. The owner, Amanda, is Deaf. She cannot hear her own voice volume. She also has constant ringing in her ears, which can be make her feel like she is in a loud environment. She lost her hearing a age 25. Sometimes she is just LOUD, not yelling at you. So SMILE…Amanda is really nice & LOVES to help her lovely painters. She teaches all the time, so she uses her voice a lot. Q. Why so many shop signs?
A. Welcome to the Deaf World. We read everything where ever we go. We need for communication to be clear. Please read & follow our instructions, so we are able to assist you with efficiency. When you arrive, we do ask you to wait to be greeted.
Q. When is Pick Up Day for tomorrow, next week, next month…?
A. We cannot state your pick up day, until you actually are in the shop to paint. We go with the flow of pottery that is painted in the shop. We cannot predict what SIZE or how MANY pots will be picked to paint before your arrival to shop. Some people will pick little gnomes and others will pick large platters or bowls to paint. Our kilns are a nice size, but they have their limit too. On the otherhand, we want a full kiln to conserve energy & to get a better quality firing for the pottery. This process cannot be rushed & it is all done by a professional ceramic artist. (Amanda) She takes care & inspects every piece that is painted in her shop.
Q. When are you open? Hours?
A. We are OPEN YEAR ROUND.

Q. What if I cannot pick up my pots on my designated pick up day?
A. You have 1 month to pick up. A lot of people like the “excuse” to come back to LBI for the day. You can have a friend or family member pick up for you.
You can set up shipping, which is extra. Your ENTIRE order must be on one credit card at the point of sale. *Visa or MasterCard only. Shipping is NOT expensive. We ship all the time…. all across the country…plus out of the country…England…Canada…
Q. Do we need to bring a bag when we pick up our pottery or shop here?
A. Yes. We will wrap items in newspaper for you, but you do have to bring a reusable bag or box with you. We like turtles! Do your part for the environment.
Q. Do you sell reusable bags?
A. Yes. Beautiful canvas bags with Amanda’s artwork on them! Stop in & buy one! Great for beach going & shopping around the island.
Q. Do you accept Walk-ins?
A. Yes… Patiently wait by the door, we will come to you after we set up the painters ahead of you. We do not want to interrupt a painting demo. Let us do our jobs, so we can help you too. ( If we walk by you, we are NOT ignoring you or being rude. (Welcome to deaf world!) we cannot clean a table & read lips at the same time. We are cleaning & getting a table for you. Just relax. We are worth the wait.)
Q. How busy are you on rainy days?
A. We wish our shop magically expanded on summer rainy days, but it doesn’t. We don’t want you to wait in the rain. We do our best to get as many painters in on rainy days. Everyone in your group must pick a pot to paint. We cannot accept “non-painters”. We are no longer holding tables, try your luck at the door. Read & follow instructions on our signs. Please do not block our door. We will come out to you. If everyone is patient & let us help the painters inside, then the faster we can do our jobs to get you a chance to paint too! We do not like to rush our painters, even on rainy days. Good things to those who wait. We are worth the wait! We have been here since 1999! Phew!
Q. I saw tables empty, but you were not excepting Walk-ins. Why?
A. Some groups can be over 8 painters at a time. We do also have painters with different abilities or needs, so we do our best to help them. We like a mellow atmosphere. We ask your patience, read our written signs & to listen to our directions.
Q. We have one person in our group who is not going to paint. Can they hang out, while we paint?
A. The number of pots must match the number of people in your group. We are ACTIVITY shop. Everyone in your group is considered a painter. We teach & entertain everyone in the shop. If you have 4 people in your group (child or adult), then you want 4 pots on your table. You can paint together or separately. Our families & friends play together here! Put your cell phone away & make memories! PLAY! Any age, level, or ability can play here!
Q. Do you have wifi?
A. We want an old-school atmosphere in our studio. We ask everyone to turn OFF their phones, tablets, watches, & tech devices, while in paint studio. We want you to forget about the world a little bit. Spend time with your family & friends. Or have some “me time”.
Q. How long does it take to paint?
A. That depends on the painters. Average is about an hour & 1/2. If you are a detailed type of person, start early in the day. We have had painters hang out for 4-5 hours. We have had painters paint within 45 minutes. We do have a last seating time, which can change with our shop schedule. That’s another reason to set up a reservation for your group.
Q. When is the last paint seating for the day?
A. It depends on the day & time of year. If your group has adults, we recommend to give yourselves at least 2 hours. You want time to pick your pots, paint, & instructions. We do not want to turn you away, but the pottery does need have enough time to dry to prep & glaze for firings. We prefer large groups to arrive at opening time.
Q. Can I bring drinks & food into the shop?
A. We are a paint studio with an art gallery gift area. Our studio is for painting sessions only. No food or drinks allowed in studio or shop areas. After your painting session, there are local area pizza places, restaurants, & bars open year round for you to go
Q. What if I don’t finish painting my pot by closing time?
A. This is rare, but we have an option for you. We give a 1 hour “Closing Time” warning & another 30 minute “Closing Time” warning. If you need additional day seating, it is $8 for each additional day. Your pick up day will be changed according to the final seating.
Q. Can I just drop off my kids to paint?
A. No, a parent/grandparent must be present. There are exceptions. We do sometimes allow older kids to hang out, as long as, they can respect us & our policies. Parents must come into the shop to make sure it is okay with us, to fill out the group form & pay.
Q. Can I just stop by to paint by myself?
A. Of Course!!! We have a lot of solo painters, who just want to chill out on their own.
Q. What if I have no artistic talent or never have painted a pot before?
A. NO WORRIES!!!! We teach everyone basic pottery painting with a fun little demo or read our fun instructions on the table. We have sponges, stencils & stamps. If you need more help or ideas, then we will do our best to help you. Amanda loves to give help & ideas, but she always encourages to do your own thing. Don’t worry. Play! We Love to fingerpaint at EVERY AGE OR ABILITY!!!!
